ABSTRACT: Hypoparathyroidism is an uncommon disorder characterized by low serum calcium, increased serum phosphorus, and deficient production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Available therapy strategies to treat hypoparathyroidism include calcium and vitamin D supplementation, replacement with PTH peptides, and auto/allo transplantation of parathyroid tissue.
We detail our understanding of the therapeutic strategies to hypoparathyroidism and provide a summary of the potential of stem cell therapy.
Advancements of stem cell therapy have drawn us a step closer to apply stem cell therapy in the cure of hypoparathyroidism.
Available therapeutic interventions to hypoparathyroidism have advanced much, but still are not beneficial or remain insufficient for many patients.
